St. Patrick's Day Fun Facts:🍀 The March 17 celebration dates back to 1631, when the Church established a Feast Day to honor St. Patrick🍀 It wasn’t until 1798, the year of the Irish Rebellion, that the colour green became officially associated with St. Patrick’s Day. Up until then, blue was the associated colour🍀 It was emigrants, particularly to the United States, who transformed St. Patrick’s Day into a celebration of all things Irish🍀 One of the most popular American celebrations is Chicago’s annual dyeing of the Chicago River green. The city originally released 100 lbs of green vegetable dye into the river – enough to keep it green for a week. Today, in order to minimize environmental damage, only 40 lbs of dye are released, enough to turn the river green for only a few hours🍀 Popular St. Patrick’s Day recipes include Irish soda bread, corned beef and cabbage, and champ (mashed potatoes blended with green onions) ...
